If you’re looking for the real deal, the French Quarter Grille’s gumbo is definitely it. This is NOT some watered down, overpriced broth with a few pieces of meat here and there like you get with other “Cajun/Louisiana” places around here. You really get your money’s worth. With the shrimp, they’re nice. big ones, not little old popcorn shrimp. The crawfish are fresh, NOT old tasting, frozen-for-the-past-year things. The chicken/sausage is great, with plenty of flavor soaked into the chicken and real, perfectly seasoned Andouille. And the crab…they don’t skimp. Finally, the roux is what any good swamp rat like me expects. Nice and dark, rich, slightly earthy but never bitter. This is coming from someone raised on gumbo and crawfish…and I do NOT work here. Just been going there for a few years when it was still Mama Roux, but Scott and Dave have really even taken it all up a big notch. Very nicely done, guys! Seriously.
New name. New Chef. Great favor. Now my my #1 Cajun food in Austin. Outstanding fresh fish selection. Special Cheesecake Appetizer is wonderfull. Can serve for 4 guests
No crowds yet. Very good value, gererous portions. “What a night at my favorite. Save room for dessert

The chicken and sausage gumbo is amazing. I think I recall that they do a 4 day roux. It’s some of the best gumbo I have had anywhere! The seafood entrees are amazing, too. It’s one of those menus that you read and have a hard time choosing – there’s always at least 2 or 3 things that sound incredibly delicious. The tables are usually full! We’ve had to wait for a table a few times but not for very long. The servers are always on the ball. Love this place!
